Roger Stone, longtime Republican political consultant, a libertarian who may have helped bring down Elliot Spitzer, and who has a picture of Richard Nixon tattooed on his back, has left the Republican the Republican party. In a long explanation of his decision, Stone nails the problem with the GOP's current crop of mainstream media-approved "front runners:"

Sadly the difference between the two major parties has become rhetorical. Under the Democrats you're going to hell. Under the Republicans, you are still going to hell but you are going more slowly.

To real conservatives the freedom of the individual is paramount. No one should be able to tell you what you can eat, drink, smoke, or marry, or what kind of gun you can own. We don't want to be snooped on by an all-knowing big brother government. That is the essence of liberty. The Republican Party has become both a party of big government but also an authoritarian party that would tell us how to live.

That the Republican Party can only produce Mitt Romney who was an independent during the Reagan-Bush years (and only converted to conservatism after serving one term as governor never intending to run for re-election while always planning to run for president), Newt Gingrich, a thrice married ego-maniac with delusions of grandeur and Rick Santorum, a religious fanatic, who would tell other people how to live, as presidential candidates proves the GOP may be going the way as the Whigs.

I fervently hoped that Donald Trump would run for president. Trump is a big thinker, with the kind of toughness and guile you need to be a successful negotiator and a successful president. While it is popular among elites to snicker at Trump his connection to average Americans and working people cannot be denied. As Neil Cavuto of Fox Business News said "No one draws ratings like Trump."

To put it bluntly the Republican Party is hopelessly f*cked up.

Our country needs a leader who values freedom and who can can win.  We may learn that the Republican party is unable to deliver such a candidate, even though the woods are full of them.

Newt steps on the gas

Say what you will about Newt Gingrich, the guy has more ideas in one day than Mitt Romney has had since he got back from France.  Among Newt's output today is a plan to return to $2.50 gasoline.

$2.50 a gallon gas is not a dream. It’s achievable with the right policies. If we take these steps, we can quickly and dramatically reduce the price of gas by tapping America’s incredible oil and gas resources to increase supply. That would mean more money in Americans’ pockets, lower costs for millions of businesses, and tens of thousands of jobs across the country in an industry poised to take off.

When Obama was inaugurated, Americans were paying $1.85 for gasoline.  Assumed Republican presidential candidate Romney should embrace the NewtGas plan and pitch it at every campaign stop.  Pledge to appoint Newt Secretary of Energy.   Or put Sarah in the post.  Hammer Obama on the one issue that every American can understand.

Mitt: please do something, anything, or just get out of the way and go back to Taxachusetts.

CNS, bless its heart, reported that the price of gasoline is up 83% since The Won took office on that awful day in 2009.

That did not make the nightly news because conservatives were too busy with their catechism classes. Conservatives cannot complain of being made fools of when they act like clowns. Quit taking the bait already.

The Des Moines Register reports that a gang of "Occupy Des Moines" "protestors" were arrested today as they banged on the locked doors of Mitt Romney's campaign HQ.  While we thank the Register for giving us the basics of the violent incident, we'd like more information.  We suspect the Register's professional staff are busy, so we're asking South of 5 and 20 readers to help out by performing web searches on the apprehended "protestors".

A progressive werewolf

There's world of  difference between the mainstream media's chosen Republican presidential candidate, Mittens Romney, and necessarily skyrocketing Texan Rick Perry. 

Born to wealth and position, the former Bay State governor was positioned to run a polite, all-holds-barred, necessarily losing camping against billionaire Warren Bufett's pal Barry Obama.  However, it now appears that the ouspoken Perry, son of tenant farmers, may send Mitt back to his new California beach house.  At The Other McCain, Smitty reacts to the controversy surrounding Perry's accurate description of Social Security as a Ponzi scheme.

O’Rourke famously noted that 2010 was not an election; it was a restraining order. 2012, therefore, will be liberty on trial, prosecuted by a Progressive werewolf in bespoke and Gucchis. Will conservatives rally around a McCotter, or even Palin? Or will they be deceived and support Romney, whose hair is perfect?

We're realists here in the Finger Lakes.  We've had to endure two Cuomos and a carpetbagger.  We understand that the perfect can be the enemy of the good, but we don't need no Romneycare.  So, watch this and let us know what you think.

Now that Boehner, McConnell and the usual gang of idiots, after  falling behind by 30 points in the first half, have blown the debt ceiling negotiations, we can look ahead to 2012.  While the smart money is on the "stupid party" nominating another guaranteed looser, it doesn't have to be that way.  Looking for leadership?

If we were really domestic terrorists, shoot, President Obama would be wanting to pal around with us wouldn’t he? I mean he didn’t have a problem with paling around with Bill Ayers back in the day when he kicked off his political career in Bill Ayers apartment, and shaking hands with Chavez and saying he doesn’t need any preconditions with meeting dictators or wanting to read US Miranda rights to alleged suspected foreign terrorists. No if we were real domestic terrorists I think President Obama wouldn’t have a problem with us.

And then there's this.

I want these candidates to not be sitting back. And bless his heart. I have respect for Mitt Romney but I do not have respect for what he has done through this debt increase debate. He waited until it was a done deal that we would increase the debt ceiling and more money would be spent and more money borrowed and then spent on bigger government.

Romney abandons presidential race

The father of the failed Massachusetts government health care mandate, Willard "Mitt" Romney, has hammered the final nail in the coffin of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

“I don’t speak for the scientific community, of course,’’ Romney said. “But I believe the world’s getting warmer. I can’t prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that . . . so I think it’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you’re seeing.’’

Who should run against Obama?

Now that Obama has officially entered the 2012 presidential race, the future of our nation depends on picking a candidate who can beat this leftist, or not impossibly that other leftist, our own former "200,000 jobs for Upstate" senator, Mrs. William Clinton.  So let's forget about Romney, Daniels, Christie, Sleepy, Dopey, Donner, Blitzen, etc.  We need to win this.

Bill Kristol is certainly an establishment Republican, so we're pleased to note his dream ticket:
